Amazon Web Services and “The Tec” partner to promote Mexican startups

by

Through an alliance with the Tecnológico de Monterrey, the Amazon cloud will soon be providing technology to entrepreneurs in incubation or acceleration.

With the common vision of boosting entrepreneurship in Mexico, the Tecnológico de Monterrey and Amazon Web Services (AWS) formed an alliance through which national startups will have free access to the services of the cloud computing platform.

Thus, the Tec joins the more than 3,000 organizations in the world that are part of AWS Activate, an AWS effort that, in this case, will grant up to $ 5,000 to startups in the process of incubation and up to $ 10,000 to startups in process of acceleration, in the form of credits so that they can use their services.

“These range from computing, databases and storage to artificial intelligence, machine learning, internet of things (IoT), security, big data, interaction with customers, among many others,” explained André Nazareth, leader of the startup ecosystem in Amazon Web Services for Latin America, in an interview with Tec Review.

But that’s not all, as the selected ventures will also have access to technical support, online training, links with other companies and exposure within AWS platforms and events.

With all this, the participating startups of AWS Activate will have the necessary technology to scale, grow and compete “at the level of large corporations” hand in hand with a “world class platform”, said Hugo Garza, Vice President of strategic projects of the Eugenio Garza Lagüera Entrepreneurship Institute.

“It’s about that the value proposition of our entrepreneurs is not limited by their technical or technological capabilities,” he said. “He’s really an enabler.”

Who can participate?

Both André Nazareth and Hugo Garza agreed that the benefits of AWS Activate are not limited to technology-based startups, since “today, all companies need this type of service, regardless of whether it is a meal, or biology, or finance”, to mention a few examples.

They also stressed that not only students and graduates of the Tecnológico de Monterrey can apply – they are simply asked to have passed or are undergoing an incubation or acceleration process within the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the Eugenio Garza Lagüera Entrepreneurship Institute.
